BOYS!

Due to overwhelming demand....haha! I love saying that...as if I'm so overwhelmed by all the demand for my stuff. I surely wish!

How about this.....due to the repeated suggestions....better?  I think so too.

Due to the repeated suggestions from potential customers, I am trying to incorporate more boy stuffs into my repertoire of adorable goods at The Little Things. Therefore I have ventured into formerly uncharted territory....TIES!

So far I've just made the 2 ties, but I just absolutely LOVE them! I'm almost tempted to say that they have been the cutest items I've made thus far....almost!

But here they are.....due to popular demand or repeated suggestions....either way, they're pretty darn cute!

The Dino Tie
adorable dinosaur print baby boy tie
will fit 14" neck

Thomas Tie
charming little boy's tie
will fit 13-15" neck

Both ties are available for sale at my Etsy store at www.etsy.com/shop/thelittlethings2011.
Thanks for looking! :)

Giveaway....Here...Now...Today...

So here it is! My first official rafflecopter giveaway. We will see how this goes :)

And here is (again) the hat I specially created for this giveaway.

This cute little cotton reversible bonnet has a teal print on one side and a teal, pink, bright green and white plaid on the other.  The bonnet comes with a detachable spring-green flower made from an up-cycled (and unworn) t-shirt with a large bright pink button at its center. It will fit a toddler thru small adult (it fits my little bean anyway).

The bonnet is reversible, so it will coordinate with much of the many, many outfits that the little lady chooses to wear on any given day. Wear it to the beach, in the yard, to the park, in the sandbox, or to any of the many, many events that the little lady chooses to attend on any given day.

It is created from 100% cotton material, with cotton/acrylic blend thread, using an "old" 2001 Kenmore sewing machine.

To enter, all you have to do is use the form below!

The entry form will be available from Monday, May 21 thru Friday, May 25. You have the option of submitting up to 10 entries, but only one is required. You may come back daily to enter, but can only complete the form once per day. **In all fairness to all my fans and followers, if you have won an item from The Little Things in April or May, please limit your entry to one day for this giveaway.

The winner will be chosen through Random.org and will be notified by May 31st, if not sooner. Thanks for entering!

And as always, you can find bonnets like the one above, not to mention a lot of other adorable items, at The Little Things facebook page at www.facebook.com/thelittlethings2011, or on Etsy at www.etsy/shop/thelittlethings2011.

Don't forget to come back on Monday thru Friday to enter the contest to win this adorable and fun summer bonnet. You can enter each day, but only once per day, with the option to submit 10 entries per day.

**In all fairness to all my fans and followers, if you have won an item from the Little Things in April or May, please limit your entry to one day for this contest. Thank you.

And the winner is.....

Can you believe that I only paid $17 for all of this stuff?  Seriously!  I can hardly believe it myself. However, when we had it in our vehicle, it seemed like so much more....not sure why.  But it's still a lot of stuff for just $17.

Unfortunately, there weren't any correct guesses to win the cute little purple bonnet. I did get one that was close at $16.75, but the contest was for an exact guess. So.....maybe my next contest she'll get it :)

Speaking of next contest....the entry form is coming up on Monday, and as promised I got the hat done beforehand. It will be posted sometime today....very shortly as a matter of fact.  So watch for it!

Upcoming Giveaway!

Hey! Summer's just about here. With the weather we've been having since January, I thought it was here a few months ago. You've just gotta love this MN weather....it's crazy and unpredictable!

That being said, I've decided that one of your little ones will want a much-needed sun bonnet to protect her little face from the summer sun. Sooooo...

I will be posting info about a giveaway that will be running from Monday, May 21 thru Friday, May 25 for you to WIN one of my new, OOAK, handmade, fun, floppy, cotton, reversible sun bonnets. Normally, I would just line each bonnet with a white or off-white muslin, but thought it would be fun to mix it up a little bit and do a reversible one.  There will, of course, also be a fun contrasting/coordinating flower attached to it!  It's not really summer without the flowers.

Keep an eye on facebook--both my personal page and my fan page--for the notice of the beginning of the contest, which will take you back to my blog, giving you instructions on how to enter. You will have the option to submit up to 10 entries, but only one is required to enter.

Here are a couple bonnets I've already made, to give you an idea of what you are entering to win. **These are NOT the bonnets you will win. It will be a brand-new, never-before-worn, freshly-made, OOAK, reversible sun bonnet...it has not yet been created, but as soon as it is, I will post it. So watch for it!

A Few of My Favorite "Little Things"

 photo from imdb.com

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

You've gotta know that my favorite part of this song is the part that goes "Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes"....now if they threw in a few verses about hats and bonnets and ribbons and bows, then the song would be perfect!

Now here are a few of my favorite items from my store.  Unfortunately I don't have them all up on Etsy yet, but as soon as I get a few ready to shop and ship, they will go up. I will keep you posted when I get them there. I hope you enjoy browsing as much as I enjoyed making them :)

New: Biz Blog

So I've finally done it! I have finally created a blog site solely for my business, The Little Things!  Woohoo!  Can you believe it?  I can barely believe it myself.

Let me give you a little background to The Little Things.

It all started when I was about 7 years old. I had been watching my mom crochet and I wanted to learn. So over the next hour or so, I learned the fine art of single, double, and half double crochets. My first project was fairly ambitious for a 7 yr old....a cradle for my baby doll. Thankfully it was a tiny baby doll, but ambitious all the same. Don't ask me how I accomplished it, but somehow I managed to create what miraculously resembled a bassinet that was about the size of my 7 yr old fist. I think it took me about 3 months to do it....whew!  But it didn't deter me from crocheting a few other items...mostly tiny blankets for my dolls. Then as I got older, I got bored with it....I think I was 8.

Fast forward a few years. I was 12 or 13 when my youngest first cousin was born. I was determined to make a baby blanket for her first Christmas. She was born on Dec 19. I did not complete that project for several more years...I was 24. I ended up giving it to my niece when she was 5 months old. Whew!

Over the years I would take up hook and yarn and create other non-threatening projects....scarfs, small-ish blankets, scarfs, pot holders....and did I mention scarfs?  All of my projects looked vaguely similar....long, stretched out, and misshapen. What was intended to be even became crooked, what was supposed to be crooked was even more crooked.  I finally gave up and put my hook and yarn away.

Fast forward a few more years. I had not been feeling well for several of those years, and the winters were especially hard on me. I had to find something to do with my bored mind during the winter months, because any strenuous activity usually put me in bed or on the couch for a few days. I once again searched out the hook and yarn and made a few scarfs....go figure.  These newer scarfs, however, started to resemble more of what a scarf was supposed to look like. They were long, narrow, and oh-so-straight!  I was so excited!  Then my curious mind started to think. Should I try knitting? Yes, I should, and I did. It was fun....but much more time consuming. I knew there weren't going to be many knitting projects in my future.  Then the winter was over and it was once again time to put away the hook, needles and yarn. After all, who knits or crochets in the summer? Who has time to knit or crochet in the summer?  But with all my busy-ness and not feeling well, my hobby items didn't see the light of day and must have been feeling neglected over the next couple years.

BUT THEN.....

One fine spring day, when I was especially bored....and probably tired of looking for the perfect hat for the little girl I did childcare for....I took up my hook and yarn once again. I googled crochet hat patterns, and what do you know? There were hundreds, if not thousands of options to choose from. Whew! Where would I even begin? It all looked to complicated to me anyway.  With all the hdc's, sc's, ss's, and other such nonsense, it seemed more like Greek than any English I had ever seen.  But I was determined to figure it out, so I decided to google all those abbreviations to see if I could get them translated to an English I could understand. And what do you know? I learned what all of those codes meant and actually learned how to do them!  Before I knew it, I had created a cute little black beanie....a black beanie that needed a flower!  So thanks once again to google, I found a pattern for that too.  I was amazed at how easy and fun it was. And it had only taken me a couple hours from start to finish. I posted that hat on facebook, and can you believe that I got 3 orders within the first couple hours?  I couldn't believe it myself!  Wow! How did THAT happen?

Now let's fast forward a few months. I had been taking orders for and making hats nearly every week....not a lot, but enough to keep my busy.  After all, I still had other jobs I was doing over the summer, and then childcare again in the fall.  I also started making and selling tutus.  Now THAT was F-U-N!  I decided that "Dawn's Hats" didn't apply anymore.....not to mention it wasn't very original either.  So I knew I needed to find a name that would be catchy and would apply to all that I planned to do with my new business.  So, to make a long story short, I had a contest for people to find a new name for "Dawn's Hats".  Let me tell you, there were some pretty "unique" ones coming in.  But finally the perfect one stuck.  I don't think I have to tell you what it was. Is.

And the rest, as they say, is history!

Now I'm over a year into making crochet hats and flowers, as well as headbands, but now I'm also making sewn items as well. Aprons, bonnets, up-cycled clothing, to name a few.  I have a few other ideas floating around in this brain of mine, and I can't wait to try them.

So now that you know the history behind "The Little Things", I want to thank you for checking out my site. I hope you find something you're looking for.  If you need to order something, please go to my Etsy site at www.etsy.com/shop/thelittlethings2011.  Currently, as of writing this, I only have tutus and aprons up, but check back soon for some more "Little Things"....after all.....

....it's what makes life fun!

PS....I just want to say, this site would not be possible without the help of God in my life. He has directed this whole venture from start to finish and I have Him to thank for every "Little Thing" in my life.

"If you are faithful in the little things, you will be faithful in large ones."  Luke 16:10
